Why not spend Valentine's Day in Paris?

Discover the Museum of Romantic Life and the Paris International Agricultural Show.

The month of February is a busy one in Paris as the capital emerges from the depths of winter with a spring in her step in anticipation of good times to come. You can enjoy those good times, too, by immersing yourself in the incredible world of the Romantics and discovering the unique works of Ary Scheffer in the Museum of Romantic Life. Also, from February 5th to March 5th you can discover the excellence of French produce and livestock at the International Agricultural Show.

The Museum of Romantic Life

The Museum of Romantic Life in the New Athens district of the 9th arrondissement of Paris is housed in the Hotel Scheffer-Renan, the former residence of the famous Dutch painter Ary Scheffer and a cradle of Romanticism during the first half of the 19th century. Today this place is a haven of peace that evokes its period superbly and houses a superb collection of works by artists of the Romantic era. Here you can see paintings, sculptures and other creations by Ary Scheffer, as well as many items from the life of a major literary figure of the time, George Sand, including drawings, busts and portraits of the writer. For the month of February, the Museum of Romantic Life offers a variety of activities such as a visit-conference which retraces the history of this legendary place, as well as workshops of all kinds such as one focussing on adult drawings. The Hotel Scheffer-Renan also offers variously themed exhibitions dealing not only with Romantic art but also the writers who had connections to this movement, such as Baudelaire.

The Paris International Agricultural Show

An essential event for more than half a century, the leading agricultural show and trade fair in France will be awaiting you this year from February 5th to March 5th at the Porte de Versailles Exhibition Centre. For this 2017 edition the show will be comprised of four specialised sectors; livestock breeding, crops and plants, culinary products and agricultural services and professions. There will be hundreds of animals on show, and French start-ups from the world of agriculture will also be presented. A star attraction, as always, will be the event’s mascot, which this year is a beautiful and proud 6 year old Bretonne Pie-Noir cow called #Fine. This show offers the ideal opportunity to taste the treasures of the French terroir and discover gourmet products of superb quality. Whether for professionals or for anyone interested in agriculture and the good products of the earth, this family-friendly agricultural fair is a flagship event offering a wide array of things to do. This year’s theme is ‘Farming: a passion, a set of ambitions’ and is inspired by current events. Don’t hesitate to make your reservation at the Hotel Royal Cardinal to ensure that your stay in Paris is as pleasant as possible during these key events of February.
