Are you a bibliophile? Do you love books and reading? Then you probably enjoy browsing in bookshops. Paris is full of small and charming librairies, but some are particularly unusual and intriguing. Here is our quick guide to the most surprising and atypical bookshops in Paris. Check them out!
Chez les Libraires Associés; the secret establishment
There is no indication of it, but behind the beautiful carriage porch lurks a large upmarket bookshop! Lacking a sign to betray its presence, Chez Les Libraires Associés is a secret establishment located in the Goutte d'Or neighbourhood of the 18th arrondissement. Ring the intercom and you will be admitted into the inner sanctum; a large and beautifully arranged space with a fabulous selection of rare and collector’s items and limited editions.
L'Eau et les Rêves; the barge bookshop
Also located in the north of the capital, and with a name that translates as Water and Dreams, this barge moored in the Canal de l'Ourcq houses a bookshop specialising in maritime themes. It offers technical works and novels, new and used books, so you’ll undoubtedly find something to float your boat in this bookstore on the water.
PUF; the shape of bookshops of the future
Head to the Left Bank and the Latin Quarter where you’ll find the bookshop Presses Universitaires de France. A well-known gathering place for students, PUF offers an original experience. When you open the door, you’ll be face to face with empty shelves, but this bookshop is on the cutting edge of technology. PUF will print on demand your selection from the millions of titles in their catalogue.
Bolek; a kiosk full of surprises
Don’t be fooled by what looks like a newsstand. Bolek, in the 10th arrondissement, actually sells used books. Here, you won’t find magazines or newspapers, but plenty of volumes recommended by the owner himself, a passionate reader.
Book your room at the Hotel au Royal Cardinal
Classic, elegant and tasteful, the Hotel au Royal Cardinal is an excellent choice for your holiday in Paris. Located in the Latin Quarter, on the Left Bank, each morning it offers a delicious, wholesome and fresh breakfast to start your day in the best possible way. In the evening, you will be delighted to relax in your pleasant and comfortable room.
