Videogames Story exhibition showing in Paris
Published on 14 July 2014, dans Exhibition and Museums
The Videogames Story is a massive exhibition, showing at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, from 30 June until 7 September 2014. This event is the largest one of its kind and is open to visitors of all ages. The exhibition journeys through various periods of videogames, from their earlier beginnings in the 1970s, up until current times.
Closing the gap between High and Pop Culture
Videogames are a new addition to the art and culture scene and although they are regarded as bearing cultural significance, it took time for this ideal to receive a wide acceptance. Changing attitudes, within arts and cultural circles, are now more evident and videogames have steadily gained a foothold in the arena of the arts and cultural Canon of the West. The Videogames Story exhibition works to bridge the gap between High art and Popular Culture.
Journeying through timelines
The Videogame has evolved immensely over the decades, since its early inception, in the 1970s. Those growing up with videogames, in the 1970s, may remember names like Space Invaders, Pong and Mastermind. Visitors, to the exhibition, will get the chance to see these games and much more, as the display, organised in chronological order, travels from the past, to the present and future. There will also be vintage equipment on display and up to date games, with advanced, virtual reality technology. Visitors can play on consoles and play stations, at the exhibition, making it all the more fun.
