Erected as a temporary entrance to the 1889 World Fair in Paris, Gustave Eiffel's masterpiece attracts in the region of 7 million visitors per year, and is the highest building in the city to this day.
A thrilling addition to a classic structure
The Eiffel Tower is an essential stop on any visit to Paris, and its fantastic new first floor was recently opened by Mayor Anne Hidalgo. The first thing you'll notice is that most of the 1st floor has been created from glass – including the floor. Special toughened glass has been used for the unique floor that lets you experience stunning views from 57 metres above Champ de Mars. The glass floor is treated with a non-slip coating and has a greater transparency effect the closer you get to the centre.
Two elegant glass pavilions have been added, and they have been designed to enhance Gustave Eiffel's original lines and pillars. The first floor is also completely accessible for disabled visitors who can enjoy the same beautiful views thanks to the glass construction and lack of barriers. The renovation of the tower's first floor has been as ecologically sound as possible, and its environmentally aware features include 4 solar panels, LED lighting and rainwater recovery.
