The Hotel au Royal Cardinal enjoys an exceptional location in the heart of the 5th arrondissement. Staying here is the ideal way to discover the district and participate in major events such as the Paris Summer Festival and Paris Plages.
Dance, theatre, music, circus and much more
For 28 years, the Paris l'Eté (Paris Summer) Festival has presented major artistic and cultural events throughout Paris and its region. This wide-ranging and diverse festival offers dance shows and circus acts as well as plays and musical concerts that take place near monuments, in parks and sometimes indoors. This year’s festival, which runs from July 16th to August 4th, will bring together a host of big names in theatre, dance, music and the circus via a rich and varied programme of offbeat cultural offerings, many of which take place in unusual venues.
Some highlights of the Paris Summer Festival
On Saturday, July 21st at the Sacré-Cœur Basilica you can witness the amazing tightrope-walking prowess of Tatiana-Mosio Bongoga accompanied by the musicians of the Paris Chamber Orchestra. This fabulous funambulist will perform on a wire suspended 35 metres above the ground and stretching from the slopes of the Butte-Montmartre to the Sacré-Cœur Basilica. We invite you to share the experience of watching this amazing feat of skill and daring.
You certainly know the Grand Palais, a magnificent 200-metre-long and 60-metre-high glass-roofed exhibition hall and museum complex built in the late 19th century. It’s one of the capital’s great landmarks. What you may not know is that this prestigious building hides a subterranean shaft originally intended to take visitors by elevator deep beneath the Earth. The project was abandoned but the shaft was rediscovered by engineers and archaeologists. The Paris Summer Festival offers the rare opportunity of a stroll through the bowels of the Earth via this shaft, which is usually off-limits to the public.
Summer is in full swing on Paris Plages
Paris Plages (Beaches) is still hugely popular even without sand. This great summer event offers a wide and varied programme of activities and entertainment to relax, amuse and excite all ages.

Some other sites, including the forecourt of the Hôtel de Ville, the Louis Lumière Stadium in the 20th arrondissement and the Elisabeth Stadium in the 14th, are also part of Paris Plages.
