The year 2016 is almost over, but the people of Paris and visitors to the city continue to be well served in terms of cultural activities and entertainment. From October 6th to January 7th the Hôtel de Ville honours the late, great comedian and actor Coluche (Michel Colucci 1944-1986) with an extensive exhibition. But that's not all, as the whole city is waiting with anticipation for the beautiful Christmas illuminations planned for this year. From the comfort of the Hotel Royal Cardinal, you can set out into the capital to discover the history of the unforgettable Michel Colucci, as well as the inviting winter markets of the city of Paris.
Major exhibition at the Hôtel de Ville in memory of Coluche.
He was taken from us far too young 30 years ago, but Michel Colucci remains in the thoughts of thousands of French. This was a man who entertained audiences with his comedy persona and unique brand of humour, and gave his time and effort to helping the needy. To honour the memory of the initiator of the charitable organisation Restaurants du Cœur, a great free event takes place from October 6th to January 7th in the halls of the Hôtel de Ville. This exhibition will feature the costumes, photos, videos and personal items that were a part of the Coluche universe.
Fans of the comedian, as well as those who are simply curious about a great man, will have the opportunity to discover the stories and struggles of this clown with a big heart. Throughout his career as a comedian, actor and media man, his charisma and provocatively incisive humour both challenged and delighted the public. If you have never experienced this comedy master, here’s your chance to find out more when you stay in our hotel in the heart of the Parisian Latin Quarter. Our beautiful setting makes all that Paris offers even more attractive.
Christmas Markets and the illuminations of Paris 2016
It's almost winter, and the end of year celebrations are approaching rapidly. The people of Paris have the opportunity to experience the city’s festive illuminations, as well as her magical Christmas markets, and so can you! These traditional markets boast stalls and entertainment of all kinds, and offer a wide variety of goods to delight both young and old. In these markets, you’ll find everything you need for the perfect Christmas, including original gift ideas, decorations, children's toys, cooking ingredients, meats, local specialties and more, all amidst an enchantingly festive atmosphere and lit by lovely illuminations. If you want to spend an unforgettable time in the run-up to the festivities, discover the beautiful markets and shop display windows of Paris in the company of family and friends. Many markets are open by mid-November, such as the Saint-Germain-des-Pres market in the 6th arrondissement, which runs from November 13th to January 8th. Approximately the same dates apply to the Champs Elysees market, the largest and most long-established in the capital.
From mid-November to December 25th the Gare Saint Lazare market plies its seasonal trade. An opportunity for French fashion designers to promote their expertise. Other famous markets include the Trocadero on Ice, located between the Palais de Chaillot, the Eiffel Tower and the Port de Suffren, which will be open during the same period.
