The Louvre, the most visited museum in the world, boasts an astonishing collection of art and artefacts dating from prehistory all the way through to today, and can keep you occupied for days.
For a breath of nature and a touch of romance, make sure you spend an afternoon in the Jardin du Luxembourg, a superb park created by royal decree in the early 17th century. Here, you can make yourself comfortable on a bench and let the peaceful atmosphere of the place wash over you before indulging in a game of chess or bridge. The Jardin des Tuileries is also a place of lyrical picturesqueness.
