Eiffel Tower lights up to delight your trip to Paris
Published on 4 November 2013, dans Visit Paris
Eiffel Tower and its extraordinary lights is surely the centrepiece of any trip to Paris, a majestic monument to engineering genius and a visit you will remember for the rest of your life. Just a short Metro ride from Hotel Royal Cardinal.
Eiffel Tower sparkles, amazes and thrills
The Eiffel Tower has been lit up permanently for ten years now. The lights on it are an engineering feat in themselves, as you'll see each evening as they're switched on, turning the Tower into a glittering, golden beacon.
It's a fitting way to honour this astonishing structure, long regarded as one of the finest engineering feats ever imagined. Designed for the Paris Exposition Universelle of 1889 by Gustave Eiffel, the Tower was at once a sensation. It was the tallest structure in the world and instantly popular with the public.
Some hated it though. The writer Guy de Maupassant is said to have eaten lunch there every day because it was the only place in Paris that you couldn't see the Eiffel Tower.
Today of course, if you think of Paris, you think of the Eiffel Tower
And you can go up, by fast lift, until late at night, so you can experience the sparkling illumination of the Tower at close quarters. As you'll approach, you'll marvel how the lights, using more than 300 projectors, turn the Eiffel Tower into a glistening work of art.
Enjoy a glass of Champagne at the highest level, toasting the lights of the city below you. You can book a table at one of the two restaurants, or enjoy a coffee from a snack bar.
